Apple Spice Smoothie

Last weekend Ben and I went apple picking with our friends Rebecca and Paul. We harvested Spartan, Macintosh, Lobo, and Golden apples, each just as delicious as their cousins (that sounds quite cannibalistic but I`m going to keep going…)

It was a gorgeously warm and sunny day, but probably the last of the season before we transition into fall. So after we picked and taste-tested each of the sun-warmed varieties, we dreamt up various ways to turn our crop into something deliciously decadent. And, of course, how we`d strategically fill our fridge with the ten pounds of apples. Each.

(I dressed quite appropriately for that particular Sunday: my pants are spartan-apple red!)

The next morning, we wanted to make something delicious with our hoard of apples. But we also wanted a breakfast that would power us through the morning without making us waddle around with what feels like a lump of bricks in our stomach. Something flavourful and comforting. A smoothie seemed to fit the bill perfectly!

This smoothie is like a spiced apple pie that you can eat for breakfast (who am I kidding: we all eat apple pie leftovers for breakfast! If you don’t, well, you should). It is delicious, healthy, perfectly spiced and a crowd-pleaser. Best of all: it’s made with Almond Breeze almond milk. The perfect almond-y pairing for a fresh from-the-branch apple!

And it was super fast to make thanks to the handy-dandy Hamilton Beach single-serve blender that Almond Breeze sent me: It whirls up one-person smoothies in a quick second, and is surprisingly powerful given it’s size and price-bracket (around 20 dollars).

Apple Spice Smoothie


  • 1 cup of peeled and diced apple (I recommend a soft-flesh kind like Macintosh)
  • one small frozen banana, peeled
  • 3/4 cup Almond Breeze vanilla unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • a sprinkle of each of the following spices to suite your tastes (I’m talking like 1/8th tsp or under): cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and nutmeg


Add all ingredient into a single-serve blender. Whirl. Enjoy.
